How to Make Batik Tulis
Goal: The process of making batik tulis is a process that requires technique, accuracy, and skill with great patience. Batik is a great cultural heritage we need to preserve. With diligent practice and the spirit of preserving culture, we can learn make batik.
Materials and Equipment:
• Canting (wax stationery used to cover batik patterns and motifs).
• Pattern pencil.
• Mori cloth (silk or cotton cloth).
• Candles/night (waxed).
• Stove/brazier.
• Fabric dye.
Steps:
• Make a motif on the mori cloth with a pencil.
• Place the cloth on the crossbar in a wide position so that it is easy to make batik.
• Heat the wax in a frying pan over low heat until the wax melts completely
• To keep the temperature of the stove / brazier stable, keep the fire low.
• Take a little of the melted night using a canting, blow it for a while so that it is not too hot, then incised the canting by following the motif.
• After all the motifs that do not want to be colored are covered by wax, then
• Dip the cloth in the dye solution.
• Dry the dyed cloth to dry.
• After drying, the pelodorant process is carried out, namely by means of wax scraping with a knife, then the cloth is boiled together with water that has been given soda ash.
• This process aims to remove the wax layer so that the motifs that have been in the picture becomes clear. If you want some colors on the batik that we create, the process can be repeated several times depending on the number of colors desired.
• After the cloth is cleaned from the wax, the batik process is carried out again with the closing of the night, the second coloring, and so on. Once it's repeated like a process beforehand as many colors as desired.
• After several dyeing processes, the batik cloth is dipped in a mixture of water and soda ash to turn off the color that sticks to the batik. This matter to avoid fading.
• The last process is soaking the batik in cold water and drying it in the sun before it can be used and used.
How To Make a Kite
Goal: Flying a kite is really exciting and making it yourself is actually quite easy to do.
Materials and Equipment:
• 3 pieces of small bamboo sticks.
• Mattress thread or kite string.
• A big strong sheet of paper.
• Pencils and markers.
• Scissors.
• Paint and brush.
• Glue.
• Tape
Steps:
• First, make the bamboo strips in the shape of a cross, with the shorter bamboo placed horizontally on top of the longer bamboo.
• Tie the two bamboos with string in such a way as to ensure that they are at right angles to each other.
• Make a hole at each end of the bamboo. Make it deep enough for the type of string you're using to fit. Cut a piece of string long enough to stretch the entire kite frame.
• Lay down the paper material and place the bamboo frame face down on it. Cut around the perimeter, leaving about 2-3 cm for the margin. Fold the ends and glue them tight.
• Make a tail by tying a small ribbon about every 10 cm along the string.
• Decorate the kite with markers.
