First of all, let us praise to the Almighty Allah SWT. and, may peace be upon the prophet Muhammad SAW who has guided us from the darkness into the brightness.

I would also like to say many thanks to the juries and MC who have given me opportunity to deliver an English speech in front of you all.

Ladies and Gentlemen,

The topic of my speech is “How to Face Globalization”. As we all know, nowadays our world is in globalization era. We often hear it. Globalization is the process of transformation of local or regional phenomena into global or international phenomena. This process is a combination of economic, technological, sociocultural and political forces.

In other words, every country in this world can influence other countries. Because of globalization, this world which consists of many countries is like “a global village”. This term refers to the fact that people are considered to live in this planet without borders, without limitation. People are able to access any kinds of information easily. There is no difficulty to communicate, there is no barrier to interact with other people from all over the world.

Ladies and Gentlemen,

Globalization has various aspects which affect the world, such as: in industry, finance, economy, politics, technology, and socio-culture. If our country wants to survive in this globalization era, we must be smart. We should take all of the positive effects of globalization and we should not take the negative effects.

For example: we need to adopt and learn high technology from developed countries in order to develop our country. On the contrary, we must not imitate bad attitudes or behaviors from other countries like free sex and drug abuse.

Ladies and Gentlemen,

It is a fact that there are many challenges in the globalization era. It cannot be denied that globalization is related to competition and the ability to survive. The question is: what should we do in order to face the globalization era? The first one is, build up and strengthen good characters based on religion. If we are Moslem, the guide of our lives is Islam. Second, we must master technology in order to develop our country. Lastly, always be ready to face any kind of change and competition by preparing and upgrading our skills.

At this chance, I want to speak about the “Benefits of Globalization”. In the globalization era, every country in this world can influence other countries. Because, the globalization era made this planet with no borders or limitations. People are able to access any kind of information easily. There is no difficulty to communicate and there is no barrier to interact with other people from all over the world.

Globalization affects every aspect of our life, such as industry, finance, economy, politics, technology, and socio-culture. Globalization gives many benefits for the people who can adapt and follow every change. For those who can’t adapt, they will be left and have no chance.

Technology is something that runs very fast in this globalization era. The Internet and digitalization are the technology that everybody have to be managed, or you will be left behind. Nowadays, you can see the handphone brand rise and fall, it is all because of globalization effect. We saw Nokia and Blackberry, this brand once dominated phone market, but they already fell.

But globalization not always give us the good effect. Culture and identity are the things we have to keep. If not, our identity as Indonesian will vanish from the world. We as young generation of this country should take this matter seriously.

With conserving our traditional cultures and doing good deeds as they were taught by our religion, we can stand still and survive as a country which never lose the local identity because of globalization.
